Brickwork

The next exciting stage is brickwork. Your selected bricks, window and door frames and relevant materials will be delivered ready for your bricklaying team. As brickwork is erected you will notice the design and layout of your house taking shape. Further information, including frequently asked questions will be emailed to you as this stage progresses.

The time frame for the brickwork stage can vary depending on demand and availability of bricklayers. Inclement weather during this period can also delay progress. The contractual obligation for completion of your home is 12 – 18 months from slab down, however our goal is always to get you into your new home as soon as possible.

  1. My house has completed brickwork stage, what happens next?
    • Roof frame delivered to site

  2. Why do some of my bricks have a green stain or look dirty?
    • The surface discolouration you can see is called vanadium salt. This is a naturally occurring salt which appears on the bricks after manufacture. At the end of construction your brickwork will be professionally cleaned.
  3. What are the holes near the bottom row of the external brickwork?
    • The holes around the base of the external walls are called weep holes. The purpose of these weep holes is to ensure that any moisture in the cavity space can drain to the outside of your home.
  4. What happens to gap between the garage wall and the concrete slab?
    • This gap will be filled once the garage floor is poured towards the end of construction.
  5. Why are not all the internal brick joints filled, why is there a gap?
    • When the plasterer applies the first coat of grey cement render, called float, the mixture fills in the gap and bonds the bricks together and anchors the plaster to the brickwork.
  6. Why is there a brick missing on my internal wall?
    • This has intentionally been left out to allow for a gas vent (if required) to be installed towards the end of construction.
  7. If your home requires columns in the external brickwork who ties them down?
    • The company that installs your roof frame will ensure that the necessary tie downs are connected to the columns.
